Håkan Ekenäs - Christus
Håkan Ekenäs is from Stockholm, Sweden. He is currently
doing postgraduate opera studies at the Benjamin Britten International
Opera School, where he is a Karaviotis Scholar.
He performed the role of the Japanese envoy in Stravinsky’s
Le Rossignol at the Royal Opera in Stockholm in their 2002-3 season.
At the RCM, he has performed three roles for the Benjamin Britten
International Opera School: Officer (Dialogues des Carmélites),
Altomaro (Sosarme) and Tarquinius (The Rape of Lucretia). Håkan
sang Pilate in the St John Passion at St John’s Smith Square
with the City of London Chamber Choir, and appeared as a baritone
soloist with the choir in two Christmas concerts at the Queen Elizabeth
Hall and at St Martin-in-the-Fields.
More recent engagements include a recital in Beaumaris, Wales, with
pianist Peter Møllerhøj, and a concert in Wells Cathedral
with Emma Kirkby, James Bowman, Peter Harvey and the Somerset Chamber
Choir, where he sang solos in Purcell’s Hail, Bright Cecilia,
Handel’s Dettingen Te Deum and Britten’s Hymn to Saint
Cecilia. Håkan recently performed as a soloist in Bach’s
Mass in B Minor with Peter Schreier and the RCM Chamber Choir at
St John’s Smith Square. He also performed the role of Leporello
in a concert with highlights from Mozart’s Don Giovanni together
with Sir Thomas Allen as Don Giovanni. As part of the From Sweden
Project in Wigmore Hall he participated as a soloist in R V Williams’ Serenade
Håkan very recently sang Christus in Bach’s St Matthew
Passion with Gary Graden and St Jacob’s Chamber Choir in Stockholm.
