Gordon is a baritone, music educator and choral conductor.
At the Royal Academy of Music and Drama he studied trumpet with John Gracie (Principal Trumpet of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra) and singing with the soprano, Patricia MacMahon. After a few years as a professional trumpet player and teacher, the singing side of his musical life came to the fore. His varied singing career spans solo,
vocal ensemble, choral and operatic work as well as recordings and broadcasts.
From 1999-2003, he was a member of the Chorus at English National Opera,
but in September 2003 he moved to Kintore with his wife, the soprano and
singing teacher, Gillian Jack, and their two young children, Fiona and
Stuart.
Gordon is a full-time professional musician. He appears with choral
societies as a soloist and sings in professional vocal ensembles; teaches
singing privately and at Robert Gordon's College. In music education
he is a Kodály Instructor for Aberdeenshire Council (teaching primary
age children musicianship through singing and games) and a Sing-a-Ring Trainer, teaching staff who work with 0-6 year olds to deliver music within their own settings. He has directed many choirs over the years
in England, Iceland and Scotland (including the National Youth Choir
of Scotland Training Choir) and is the Rehearsal Director of the Edinburgh
Festival Chorus, Aberdeen Section.
