This concert will take a journey through the main seasons of the Christian year, beginning with Advent and ending with Trinity. A significant piece of sacred music from each season will be presented and the programme will include Bach’s great Whitsuntide anthem for double choir Der Geist Hilft, Herbert Howells’ Passiontide motet Take Him, Earth, for Cherishing, Patrick Gowers’ Ascensiontide anthem Viri Galilaei, and music by Palestrina, Taverner, Wesley, Stainer and Sweelinck. The choir will be accompanied by Simon Nieminski, the gifted virtuoso organist from St Mary’s Metropolitan Cathedral in Edinburgh, who will also play organ solos by Bach and Messiaen.
On May 25th the choir joins up with the Aberdeen Sinfonietta to sing in the Music Hall. This concert features a programme which will be perfect for early summer. The choir will be joined by the fast rising star, local Aberdeenshire soprano, Eleanor Dennis to sing John Rutter’s exuberant Magnificat. The programme also features Faure’s Cantique de Jean Racine, Mozart’s Exultate Jubilate, and three beautiful and evocative orchestral miniatures by Delius – On Hearing the First Cuckoo in Spring, A Song Before Sunrise, and the Walk to the Paradise Garden.
